Explore practical strategies for helping students practice smarter and more independently. This session will share adaptable practice tips and student-friendly worksheets while inviting teachers to contribute their own ideas and strategies to our collective “practice toolbox.”
BIOGRAPHY
Anthony Ty is a graduate of DePaul University, where he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance, and the Global Leaders Institute, where he earned an MBA in Arts Innovation. He currently teaches through his home studio in Niles and as a faculty member of the Northwestern Music Academy.
Ty is passionate about community and is an active member of the Northshore Music Teachers Association (NSMTA), serving as Corresponding Secretary and Social Media Chair. He also serves as President-Elect of the Virtual Illinois State Music Teachers Association (VILMTA), ad has worked with the Illinois State Music Teachers Association to create the Digital Resources page, a hub for local teachers to share their expertise and knowledge.
As an active presenter in the field of piano pedagogy, Ty has presented at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP) in 2023 and 2025, as well as the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Online Conference in 2025.
Most recently, Ty launched Tugtog Pilipino, a project dedicated to arranging Filipino music for solo piano and sharing the stories and cultural history behind the repertoire.
Ty also enjoys combining his love for music and technology through digital media, social media, and music livestreaming.

New Intermediate Pedagogical Music by Francis “Frank” Johnson
The music of Francis “Frank” Johnson, a nineteenth-century African American musician will refresh and integrate piano performance and pedagogy to your intermediate teaching repertoire. Introduction to various styles include operatic airs, marches, ballads, cotillions, quadrilles.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Yeeseon Kwon is Professor and Interim Associate Dean in the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Specializing in andragogy she teaches adult group and applied piano at Northwestern University Music Academy and serves on the NCKP Teaching Adults Steering Committee. A nationally recognized adjudicator, clinician, conference, and masterclass presenter, her lecture performances encompass Romantic pianism, innovative group piano musicianship, instructional technology, and adult learning. Her international performances include solo, duo piano, and collaborative engagements. She is a Course Contributor for A Pianist’s Guide to Teaching in Groups, from The Frances Clark Center Teacher Education Courses and a recipient of the 2023 Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy Outstanding Service Recognition Award. Formerly Vice President of The College Music Society, Dr. Kwon is President of Illinois State Music Teachers Association, Director of Institutional Engagement at the Frances Clark Center, and serves on the board of MTNA as East Central Division Director.
