Program: “Soft Shadows: Discovering Liszt's Late Piano Works”

While he is often celebrated for his virtuoso pieces, this program will highlight works like Sancta Dorothea, Nuages gris, and En rêve, showcasing their profound emotional depth and innovative techniques. Participants will gain insights into this rich repertoire, enhancing their teaching and playing experiences. BIOGRAPHY

Pianist Alexander Djordjevic is recognized for his expressive performances and deep commitment to music. Critics commend his thoughtful interpretations and technical proficiency, describing his artistry as a refreshing addition to the classical piano landscape. His album, “Gray Clouds: Piano Music of Franz Liszt,” garnered the 2010 Hungarian Liszt Society’s Grand Prix du Disque, an esteemed accolade previously awarded to many prominent pianists. This recognition was particularly meaningful when Djordjevic performed in Budapest to commemorate Liszt's 199th birthday.

The album has received acclaim, with listeners noting the subtlety and emotional depth Djordjevic brings to Liszt's reflective late works. His ability to authentically connect with the music resonates with audiences, highlighting the beauty and complexity inherent in Liszt’s compositions.

In performances, Djordjevic aims for clarity and sincerity, striving to illuminate the nuances of each piece. As a Fulbright Scholar, he studied under Russian pianist Vitaly Margulis at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany, where he earned the Aufbaustudium Diploma “With Distinction.” He also holds advanced degrees in piano performance and literature from the University of Illinois.

His performances have graced a range of venues internationally, including at Symphony Center, Chicago, and various community concerts, where he delights in sharing the joy of music with diverse audiences.

A native of Chicago, Djordjevic began his piano studies at an early age and made his concerto debut at twelve. He has released two CDs: “Gray Clouds: Piano Music of Franz Liszt” and “Alexander Djordjevic Plays Scarlatti – Beethoven – Chopin – Rachmaninov – Liebermann.” His recordings have enjoyed airtime on radio stations worldwide, reaching a broad audience.

Currently, Djordjevic serves on the piano faculty of the Music Institute of Chicago and maintains private studios in Park Ridge and Hinsdale, Illinois. He is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians and continues to find inspiration in the works of composers like Liszt.
